First Provincial-Level Nationwide Disaster Safety Control Tower Established
The 'Disaster Safety Situation Room' to protect the daily lives of Gyeongnam residents opened its doors on the 1st and has begun full-scale operation.
On this day, Gyeongnam Province announced that it had established the first disaster safety control tower at the provincial level nationwide.
The opening and plaque ceremony was attended by Governor Park Wan-su, Vice Chairman Choi Hak-beom and Construction and Fire Committee Chairman Park Hae-young of the Provincial Council, 39th Infantry Division Commander Kim Jong-mook, Public Safety Department Head Han Won-ho of the Provincial Police Agency, and Fire Chief Jo In-jae of the Gyeongnam Fire Headquarters.

According to the province, the Disaster Safety Situation Room focuses on sharing disaster information among disaster response agencies and resolving problems in the dissemination system, which were identified as issues following the Itaewon accident in October last year.
A total budget of 700 million KRW was invested to build a system that can integrate and monitor video information, which had been operated separately by each agency and department.
For public safety, it can view real-time video information from about 38,000 intelligent CCTVs installed in all cities and counties, 487 CCTVs in disaster-prone areas, and highway situation CCTVs from the Korea Expressway Corporation.
Disaster experts consisting of 12 personnel in 4 teams, including 8 from the province and 4 from the fire department, work 24 hours a day to conduct disaster control based on video information.
After a disaster occurs, the system enables rapid and comprehensive judgment and dissemination to disaster response agencies, allowing for swift response.
To secure the golden time for patients and respond efficiently to emergency situations, the system strengthens linkage with the emergency medical comprehensive control tower to share hospital bed information.

Along with the opening of the Disaster Safety Situation Room, Gyeongnam Province plans to advance the disaster management system based on a digital platform integrated with cutting-edge technologies such as drones and AI, and to expand a three-dimensional disaster response system among administration, fire, and police through sharing video information from 119 fire vehicles and 112 police vehicles.
Governor Park said, “The province, the Fire Headquarters, and the Police Agency all exist for the residents, and investments related to safety should take precedence over other areas.”
He added, “The establishment of this Disaster Safety Situation Room is the first step to quickly securing the safety of residents, and we will make greater efforts to create a safe Gyeongnam.”
