Police Officer Jailed for Coercing False Confession from Drug Offender and Leaking Investigation Information...

A police officer who extracted false confessions from drug offenders and leaked investigation information was sentenced to prison and taken into custody in court.

Judge Hong Jun-seo of the Incheon District Court Criminal Division 5 sentenced police officer A (51), who was indicted on charges including abuse of authority and official secret leakage, to two years in prison at the sentencing hearing held on the 2nd.

Judge Hong stated, "All charges against the defendant are recognized as guilty," and added, "Considering the serious nature of the crimes, a prison sentence is unavoidable."

A was indicted without detention on charges including obtaining false confessions during drug investigations from September 2020 to January of last year. He persuaded B, who was already on trial for another drug case, to improve his investigation performance.

In return, A falsely prepared sentencing reference materials stating that "the defendant cooperated with the investigation" and submitted them to the court handling B's drug case.

He is also accused of ignoring the crimes of another drug offender with whom he had a close relationship and leaking investigation information in October 2020.

The prosecution confirmed the charges against A during the investigation of the case related to B and brought him to trial.
