"Energy Cashback Expansion... Reduce Electricity Usage by 10% to Pay Pre-Increase Rates"

Vice Minister Bang Gi-seon stated, "Starting in July, we will expand the energy cashback program so that if electricity usage is reduced by 10% compared to the same month last year, the electricity bill will remain at the pre-increase level."

On the 2nd, Bang Gi-seon, the 1st Vice Minister of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, presided over the 25th Emergency Economic Vice Ministers' Meeting at the Government Seoul Office and announced this. The average monthly electricity bill based on 400 kWh in July is 74,000 KRW, reflecting the increase. If electricity usage is reduced by 10% and the energy cashback is applied, the bill will decrease to 60,000 KRW. Applications for the energy cashback will be available online starting from the 7th. The cashback will be directly deducted from the next month's electricity bill or can be received in cash.

Vice Minister Bang also said, "To alleviate the energy cost burden caused by the early heat and electricity rate increase, we will launch a summer energy-saving campaign," adding, "For vulnerable groups, the energy voucher support target will be expanded by more than 30%, and the support amount will be increased from 40,000 KRW last year to 43,000 KRW this year." He continued, "With June being the month of travel, various discounts on transportation and accommodation will be provided, and we hope many citizens will take advantage of these benefits."
