Fields Enter the 'Special Zone' Era!… Gyeongbuk Agriculture Undergoes Major Transformation Projects One After Another

Awarding the Signboard for 'Deulnyeok Special Zone' Designation, Presenting Joint Farming Models by Special Zones

Leading Agricultural Local Era as a Sustainable Development Pioneer Management Entity

Gyeongbuk is attempting a major transformation in agriculture by launching the ‘Deulnyeok Special Zone’ project.

The Gyeongsangbuk-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services held a resolution ceremony on the 2nd at Saemmul Agricultural Cooperative in Dogae-myeon, Gumi, with about 100 participants including provincial and city/county officials and farmers participating in the Deulnyeok Special Zone.

This resolution ceremony was an occasion for the Deulnyeok Special Zone communities to reaffirm their commitment to grow into sustainable leading management entities and lead the local era in the agricultural sector.

The Agricultural Research and Extension Services is prioritizing the Gyeongbuk Agricultural Transformation ‘Deulnyeok Special Zone Development Project,’ which aims to increase farm income through scaling up and convergence of agriculture.

Starting with the establishment of the Deulnyeok Special Zone TF team earlier this year, the project has been well-prepared through budget securing, education for changing farmers’ awareness, and formation of a technical advisory group. Last month, four Deulnyeok Special Zones were designated: the Pohang Gyeongju Food Crop Special Zone, the Gumi Mill Valley Special Zone, and the Uljin Livestock Circulation Special Zone.

At the event, representatives of the Deulnyeok Special Zones directly introduced the progress of each zone and their specialized joint farming models, and plaques announcing the designation of the zones were presented.

There was also a session to introduce and promote various processed products made from domestic wheat, which needs to be cultivated more to increase food self-sufficiency, including bread, cookies, and beer made from wheat flour, with tasting opportunities.

Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, said, “In Korea’s agriculture and rural areas, which have lost growth momentum due to aging and climate change, the Gyeongbuk Agricultural Transformation communities will become a new central axis and completely change the framework of agriculture,” adding, “We will make the agricultural transformation a model case so that young people can settle in rural areas.”
