Jin Air announced on the 1st that it has produced upcycled products by recycling uniform jeans.
Upcycling is a combination of upgrade and recycling. It means transforming something beyond simple recycling into a completely new value.
Jin Air carried out this project to practice environmental, social, and governance (ESG) management, including resource circulation and environmental protection, selecting a "pencil case" as an eco-friendly upcycled product that enhances resource efficiency and reduces waste. Jeans that were about to be discarded were reborn as practical everyday items, contributing to environmental preservation by reducing the emission of harmful substances caused by landfill or incineration during jean disposal.
For this project, Jin Air collaborated with the eco-friendly platform "Jigurang" and the upcycling specialist brand "Halikei." Additionally, a senior club in the Daegu region, composed of sewing experts, was responsible for sorting, dismantling, and cutting the uniforms. The jeans, refined by skilled hands, were newly transformed into high-quality pencil cases.
The upcycled pencil cases produced in this way will be used in in-flight events. Jin Air will hold an eco-friendly event for domestic flights on the 5th in celebration of Environment Day. Passengers participating in the event will receive the upcycled pencil case along with pencils made from recycled newspapers as souvenirs.
Jin Air stated, "We plan to continue these environmental protection activities for a sustainable Earth," adding, "We will consistently make various efforts to lead the practice of ESG management."
