Meeting with Nam Seong-hyun, Director of the Korea Forest Service
Request for Support to Revitalize Rhododendrons on Hwangmaesan Mountain
Lee Seunghwa, the governor of Sancheong County in Gyeongnam, is stepping up efforts to secure national funding in the forestry sector. The county announced on the 1st that Governor Lee visited the Daejeon Korea Forest Service to secure national funds for forestry projects.
During a meeting with Nam Seonghyeon, the head of the Korea Forest Service, Governor Lee requested national funding support for the smooth implementation of forestry projects, including the restoration and revitalization of the Rhododendron colonies on Hwangmaesan Mountain.
In particular, Hwangmaesan, one of Korea’s three major Rhododendron colonies, attracts many visitors every year during the blooming season. Governor Lee actively explained the need for forest facilities linked with Korea Forest Service support projects.
He also emphasized that this project is optimal for providing visitors with diverse forest content throughout the four seasons and contributing to the revitalization of the local economy.
The main proposals include ▲restoration of the Rhododendron colonies (pruning, replanting, forest tending, etc.) ▲creation of themed forest roads and improvement of road structures within the Rhododendron colonies ▲maintenance of hiking trails on Hwangmaesan Mountain, with a budget of 1.9 billion KRW needed for next year.
Governor Lee said, “The forestry projects are essential for the revitalization of Hwangmaesan,” adding, “We will continue to work closely with related ministries and Gyeongnam Province to make every effort to secure national funding.”
