L&K Biomed Sponsors International Spine Symposium

Introduction to High Value-Added Expandable Cages for Spinal Disease Treatment

Spinal implant company L&K Biomed solely sponsored the ‘2023 International Spine Symposium’ hosted by Gangnam Bedro Hospital on the 26th.

The symposium is an international event for academic exchange on the latest techniques in spinal surgery, focusing on height-expandable cages. Over 20 spine specialists from domestic institutions such as Gangnam Bedro Hospital, Seoul National University Hospital, Seoul Asan Hospital, Chung-Ang University Hospital, as well as from overseas countries including the United States, Vietnam, and India, attended.

The event was conducted over two sessions with ten presentations. Starting with Dr. Anthony Shin, a leading spine surgeon from Louisiana State University Shreveport Hospital in the U.S., presenting ‘MIS TLIF with Expandable Cage,’ the symposium provided an opportunity to broaden understanding of minimally invasive spinal endoscopic surgery and spinal deformities encountered in actual clinical practice through various case discussions. Gangnam Bedro Hospital’s CEO Director Yoon Kang-jun and Spine Center Director Lee Chun-sung shared on ‘Bi-portal Endoscopic Spinal Surgery & LLIF’ regarding bi-directional spinal endoscopic surgery and ‘Surgical Treatment of Scoliosis’ concerning scoliosis, respectively.

The event concluded with an introduction to new technologies such as the ‘Development of Spinal Implant Surface Activation Technology’ by plasma deep-tech company Plasmap.

Gangnam Bedro Hospital CEO Director Yoon Kang-jun said, "The symposium was a valuable time to share the latest expertise and experiences through diverse case discussions with spine specialists from around the world who are concerned with spinal disease treatment." He added, "We will continue to create regular opportunities and carry out research activities for the advancement of spinal treatment."

L&K Biomed introduced various mid- to long-term development projects, including the patented world’s first curved design lateral expandable cage ‘ExcelFix-XTP’ and the right lateral expandable cage ‘PassLock-TM,’ which has received U.S. FDA approval and is expanding its market.

On the 22nd, L&K Biomed successfully completed the first surgeries using the lateral expandable cage ‘ExcelFix-XTP’ in the United States, Australia, and Hong Kong.

An L&K Biomed official stated, "We received positive responses from medical professionals worldwide by introducing high value-added height-expandable cages for spinal disease treatment and various mid- to long-term development projects."
