50s Fall to Death at Construction Site in Changwon

Ministry of Employment Investigates Violations of the Serious Accident Punishment Act

A man in his 50s died in a fall accident at a newly constructed officetel site in Changwon City, Gyeongnam Province, and the Ministry of Employment and Labor is investigating whether there was a violation of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act.

According to the Ministry of Employment and Labor and Yonhap News on the 30th, A (59), who was working at a new officetel construction site in Masanhwoa-gu, Changwon City, fell and died at around 12:57 p.m. on the 26th.


A was working on concrete finishing at the stairwell on the 6th floor of the new construction site when he fell about 18 meters down to the 1st floor.


The labor authorities believe that A slipped and fell while on a narrow scaffolding.


A, who suffered head and back injuries, was transported to a hospital but ultimately passed away at around 7:30 p.m. that day.


It was confirmed that the accident site lacked basic safety facilities such as railings.


The construction project, with a contract amount exceeding 5 billion KRW, falls under the scope of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act.


The Ministry of Employment and Labor halted work immediately after the accident and is investigating the company representative and others for possible safety violations.


If negligence is confirmed, they plan to apply charges under the Serious Accidents Punishment Act and the Industrial Safety and Health Act and proceed with an investigation.
