Naver Cloud "Safe Construction Sites with Eum5G"... Korea's First Demonstration

Naver Cloud announced on the 25th that it has become the first in Korea to establish and verify the effectiveness of Ieum 5G (5G specialized network) at a construction site.

Ieum 5G is a concept distinct from the public 5G network provided by telecom operators. It refers to a private, customized communication network offered only in specific areas such as buildings and factories. In Korea, the robot-friendly building ‘Naver 1784’ is a representative example of such an installation. This verification was conducted at the construction site of Hoban Construction’s ‘Hwaseong Bibong B2 Hoban Summit Apartment.’ The establishment of Ieum 5G at the construction site is the first case where Naver Cloud has provided and verified Ieum 5G externally since ‘Naver 1784.’

By establishing Ieum 5G at the construction site, communication is possible without any shadow areas on-site. This means that even during the construction phase where internet networks are not established, smart Internet of Things (IoT) technology and real-time integrated control based on digital twins can be applied, as well as construction solutions without communication interruptions. It signifies the possibility of building infrastructure that can monitor work sites and safety issues.

As Korea’s first Ieum 5G operator, Naver Cloud was responsible for everything from frequency allocation licensing to 5G linkage support for various solutions. Ieum 5G was established at a construction site with a land area of approximately 40,000㎡, and construction solutions were pilot-applied using the allocated frequency. Autonomous drones, PTT (Push To Talk), safety vests capable of video calls, wireless CCTV, and heat and moisture sensors were verified based on the Ieum 5G network. Naver Cloud plans to supply 5G specialized networks by linking optimized solutions for various industrial sites requiring Ieum 5G beyond construction in the future.

Hansang Young, Executive Director of Strategy & Planning at Naver Cloud, said, "Until now, construction sites have had poor wireless communication environments, making it difficult to use Wi-Fi or existing mobile networks, which hindered the application of safety management solutions. However, through this verification, we demonstrated construction solutions such as simultaneous transmission of high-definition video and secured work efficiency and safety."
