"Patient Safety Secured" Chosun University Hospital Conducts Leadership Safety Rounding

The purpose of Leadership Safety Rounding is to convey the hospital management’s interest and commitment to patient safety, identify patient safety risk factors that are usually unnoticed through communication with frontline staff, share opinions for improvement, and thereby spread and establish a patient safety culture.

Director Kim Kyung-jong, along with the executive team and other hospital leaders, and the working-level staff conducted inspections around the Pharmacy Department (ward and outpatient pharmacies, medical information office, chemotherapy preparation room) to prevent patient safety accidents in advance.

On this day, they checked efforts to prevent prescription errors, verified the storage locations of pharmaceuticals, multi-dose drugs, and high-risk drugs as well as their labeling, inspected activities to prevent potential medication errors related to dispensing drugs in packaging units, and confirmed the process of dispensing injectable narcotics. They also took time to communicate by checking unnoticed risk factors, discussing difficulties, and exploring improvement measures.

Director Kim Kyung-jong emphasized, “The Pharmacy Department is a key department closely related to patient safety accidents. To prevent medication errors that threaten patient safety, multifaceted efforts to prevent medication errors are required from the medication preparation stage, including drug management, through to the administration process.” He added, “Going forward, through Leadership Safety Rounding, let us create a safe medical environment centered on patients and prioritize patient safety.”

Meanwhile, Chosun University Hospital conducts safety rounding once every quarter to foster staff awareness of patient safety, activate voluntary reporting of patient safety incidents, and establish a patient safety culture.
