Prosecutors Conduct Search and Seizure of Call Center Operator for Song Young-gil's Primary Campaign

The prosecution investigating the Democratic Party of Korea's '2021 Party Convention Money Envelope Suspicion' has detected additional evidence of money distribution at former leader Song Young-gil's primary campaign and conducted a search and seizure on the 24th.

The Anti-Corruption Investigation Division 2 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kim Young-cheol) sent prosecutors and investigators to the residence and office of Park, who operated the campaign call center and served as the metropolitan area situation room chief, to secure related materials.


The prosecution is reported to have newly detected circumstances where money or entertainment was provided to call center employees in the name of daily wages and meal expenses at former leader Song's primary campaign around March to April 2021, ahead of the Democratic Party convention.


During the investigation of witnesses, the prosecution additionally obtained statements indicating that other funds were distributed besides the 94 million won spread in line with the party convention. Accordingly, they have expanded the scope of the investigation, believing that external support organizations such as 'Pyeonghwa wa Meokgosaneun Munje Yeonguso' (Peace and Livelihood Issues Research Institute), affiliated with former leader Song, were mobilized.


After analyzing the seized materials, the prosecution plans to summon Park as a witness to confirm the scale of the additionally provided money, as well as the methods of its collection and delivery.
