Apple Unveils WWDC Lineup... Is an MR Headset Coming?

Apple has unveiled the lineup for its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), which will be held from the 5th to the 9th of next month (local time). There is keen interest in whether Apple will reveal its mixed reality (MR) headset at this event.

WWDC23 will be held online, with a special keynote event at Apple Park on the opening day offering developers and students the opportunity to participate in person. Throughout the week, various events and activities will showcase the latest technologies, tools, and frameworks. Developers will receive guidance on creating innovative apps and games through one-on-one labs and Slack activities with Apple engineers and experts during the event week.

The Platforms State of the Union is a program where developers can delve deeper into new tools, technologies, and overall improvements to Apple platforms, learning how to create more advanced apps. The Apple Design Awards recognize and celebrate the artistry, craftsmanship, creativity, and technical excellence of the Apple developer community. This year’s winners will be announced via the Apple Developer app and website.

WWDC23 offers developers the chance to learn about the latest tools and technologies that will help them develop next-generation apps and games through 175 in-depth session videos. Developers can also apply for one-on-one lab consultations with Apple experts to receive advice on technology, design, and ways to increase app visibility on the App Store.

In addition to session videos and one-on-one lab consultations, Apple engineers and designers will host various online activities on Slack throughout the event week. These activities help developers engage in technical discussions, resolve questions, and communicate with each other. Participants can join technical or design Q&A sessions, watch session videos and ask presenters questions, or build community through social activities.

Meanwhile, major foreign media outlets such as Bloomberg predict that Apple will unveil its MR headset at WWDC23. If the headset is introduced this time, it will be Apple’s first new hardware product launch in nearly 10 years since the Apple Watch in 2014. Apple has invested over $1 billion (approximately 1.3187 trillion KRW) annually for several years in developing this device. Industry insiders expect the MR headset to take the form of ski goggles and be sold for around $3,000 (approximately 3.96 million KRW).
