The government will invest 24.5 billion KRW in post-production for dramas, entertainment shows, documentaries, and more.
On the 23rd, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency announced thirty-four selected works for the 'Broadcasting Video Content Post-Production Support Project.' Up to 1 billion KRW per work will be provided for special visual effects (VFX), computer graphics (CG), sound design, original music composition, multilingual subtitles, dubbing production, and more. A Ministry of Culture official explained, "This newly established project aims to diversify large-scale genre works and enhance the international competitiveness of K-broadcast video content," adding, "The selected works are scheduled to be released from the second half of this year through the first half of next year."
The largest portion of funding goes to dramas. Twenty-two works in genres such as SF, fantasy, and hero stories were selected. In particular, 'Byeoldeurege Mureobwa,' starring Lee Min-ho and Gong Hyo-jin, is a space-themed SF drama with post-production costs exceeding 10 billion KRW. It will be the first K-drama to depict a space station. A Ministry of Culture official stated, "Many selected works are based on webtoons and web novels that are difficult to realize without VFX or CG."
Twelve works were selected in entertainment, culture, and documentary categories. These include 'Gwijoksikdang,' 'Debi,' 'Myeongnyang, Hansan, Noryangkkaji 10 Nyeongan-ui Hanghae,' 'Virtual Idol,' 'Seoul Playboy,' 'Yeosin Sidae,' 'Yeongsang Bokwon Busanhang,' 'Jeonyeong Noeul Sokeseo,' and 'Jigu-e On Chelliseuteu.'
