"Nowhere to Use Apple Pay"... 26% of iPhone Users Utilize It

"Advantages Are Fast Payment Speed and Easy Payment"
39% of Respondents Say They Would Use It More If Usage Locations Expand

One in four iPhone users in South Korea has tried Apple Pay, according to a survey. Users cited fast payment speed and a simple payment process as satisfaction factors, while expanding places where it can be used was identified as a challenge.

According to the results announced on the 22nd by financial research company Consumer Insight, which surveyed 455 iPhone users aged 20 to 69 nationwide from the 24th of last month to the 7th of this month, 26.4% of respondents said they have used Apple Pay.

The low usage rate of Apple Pay appears to be influenced by the fact that it is only available to Hyundai Card holders. Among respondents, 39.8% said they would be willing to use Apple Pay if it were expanded to other card companies.

The advantages of Apple Pay cited by users were "fast payment speed" (56.8%, multiple responses allowed) and "simple payment process" (51%). Other responses included support for various payment methods and devices such as Apple Watch and iPad (30.2%), and the ability to make payments without a data connection (25.4%).

The most common inconvenience reported was "there are few places where offline payments are possible" (53.0%).

Among Apple Pay users, 24.8% said they experienced no inconvenience, which is higher than the 45.6% of Samsung Pay users who reported no inconvenience.

Consumer Insight pointed out, "The proportion of users who said 'no inconvenience' is one in four for Apple Pay users, which is relatively high compared to one in two for Samsung Pay users, indicating the need for service improvements for early market settlement."
