2023 Jeonnam International Sumukh Biennale, 'Seoul Area Boom-Up Event' Successfully Concluded

On the 22nd, the Sumukh Biennale Secretariat announced that it successfully concluded the "Seoul Area Boom-up Event" on the 20th in the Insadong and Marronnier Park areas of Seoul to ensure the successful hosting of the "2023 Jeonnam International Sumukh Biennale."


During this event, the Sumukh Biennale Secretariat promoted the Jeonnam International Sumukh Biennale to domestic and international tourists through experiential programs such as Sumukh fan painting and Sumukh graffiti, as well as street promotions.


In particular, the Good Performance Information Center held a special exhibition titled "Biennale, Immersed in Sumukh," featuring 22 members from the Korean Painting Promotion Association and the Korean Women Painters Association, showcasing various Sumukh artworks.


Additionally, the Secretariat held an academic symposium titled "Sustainable Art, Sumukh Spirit and Contemporary Art" at the Arko Artist House in Marronnier Park.

The symposium invited speakers including Professor Jo In-su from Korea National University of Arts, art critics Robert Morgan and Richard Vine, and Professor Weiyang from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing to discuss the essential understanding of Sumukh and how Sumukh can offer alternatives and directions for contemporary art.


During the subsequent comprehensive discussion session, art organizations, participating artists, university professors, and students participated, sharing diverse opinions with session speakers and four panelists on "how sustainable art and the Sumukh spirit influence contemporary art."


Park Geun-sik, Secretary General of the Jeonnam International Sumukh Biennale, said, "We held the event targeting citizens in the metropolitan area to promote the value of Korean Sumukh to the world and to create a boom for the successful hosting of the 2023 Jeonnam International Sumukh Biennale, which attracts people worldwide. We hope you visit the 2023 Jeonnam International Sumukh Biennale held in Mokpo City and Jindo County, which offer abundant food and sights, to experience the fun and emotion of Sumukh."


Marking its third edition this year, the 2023 Jeonnam International Sumukh Biennale, themed "The Dyeing Mountain, The Stopped Water ? In Sublime Harmony," will be held from September 1 to October 31 at the Cultural and Arts Center area in Mokpo City and the Unlim Sanbang area in Jindo County, Jeollanam-do.
