The Ministry of Education and the Korea Student Aid Foundation will accept applications for the first round of the 2023 academic year second semester National Scholarship from 9 a.m. on the 23rd until 6 p.m. on the 22nd of next month.
During the first application period, all university students including current students, returning students, freshmen, transfer students, and re-enrolled students can apply. In particular, current students must apply during the first round.
Current students who miss the first application period can apply during the second period for relief, but the number of applications during the second period is limited to two times during their enrollment. If the number exceeds two, the application will be rejected for "non-compliance with the application period" during the review.
The National Scholarship is an income-linked scholarship provided to university students whose income and assets are below a certain level and who meet academic criteria. The government divides applicants into a total of 10 brackets based on income and assets, with eligibility ranging from basic livelihood security recipients and near-poverty groups up to the 8th bracket (household income at or below 200% of the median income for a family of four).
Type I National Scholarship, which is linked to income and assets, and the multi-child National Scholarship provide differentiated support ranging from a minimum of 3.5 million KRW annually to full tuition for students in income bracket 8 or below.
Type II National Scholarship, which is provided based on each university’s own criteria, supports students in the 9th bracket (household income at or below 300% of the median income for a family of four). The Ministry of Education only supports Type II National Scholarship if the university has frozen or reduced tuition fees.
Applications for the National Scholarship can be submitted through the Korea Student Aid Foundation website (www.kosaf.go.kr) or via the mobile application.
For detailed information regarding the National Scholarship application, inquiries can be made to the Korea Student Aid Foundation Call Center (☎1599-2000) or by visiting regional foundation centers for consultation.
