A man who bought an annuity lottery ticket for the first time in his life while intending to purchase a Lotto ticket won both the 1st and 2nd prizes simultaneously, receiving 2.16 billion won, becoming a hot topic.

According to the lottery operator Donghaeng Lottery, the winner, Mr. A, won the 1st prize (1 ticket) and 2nd prize (4 tickets) of the 157th annuity lottery 720+ at a lottery sales store in Gwonseon-gu, Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do. Mr. A will receive 11 million won per month for the next 10 years, and 7 million won per month for the following 10 years, totaling 2.16 billion won.

In an interview with Donghaeng Lottery, Mr. A said, “I often buy Lotto tickets as I approach retirement, but the store I usually visit said they were not selling Lotto tickets for some reason. So, I reluctantly bought an annuity lottery ticket for the first time.”

He added, “I didn’t know how the annuity lottery worked and just bought the ticket the store owner gave me. When I checked the winning numbers, I couldn’t believe it. Winning the 1st prize on my first annuity lottery purchase is amazing. I was worried about my retirement, but since the prize money comes in an annuity form, I feel very happy.”

Mr. A said, “As soon as I won, I thought of my family and we celebrated together. I want to retire in 1 to 2 years and travel with my spouse.” He added, “I plan to use the prize money as retirement funds and support for my children.”

The annuity lottery is sold in sets of 5 tickets, all with the same number. If the set wins, the holder receives 1 ticket for the 1st prize and 4 tickets for the 2nd prize. The 1st prize pays 7 million won monthly for 20 years, and the 2nd prize pays 1 million won monthly for 10 years. The prize payment period is one year from the start date.
