On the 20th, Pohang City successfully opened the ‘2023 Regular Direct Transaction Yeongilman Chingu Love Market’ at the City Hall Square to promote the consumption of local agricultural products and stabilize prices.
This direct transaction market is being held as part of the ‘Regular Direct Transaction Market Support Project’ organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation, having been selected for three consecutive years through 2024.
It operates every Saturday at the City Hall Square until November 18, offering excellent local agricultural, marine, and specialty products at prices 10 to 30% lower than the market price.
The opening ceremony was attended by Deputy Mayor Kim Nam-il, National Assembly member Kim Byung-wook, city council members, the Yeongilman Chingu Certified Companies Association, the Agricultural Organizations Council, and officials from the Pohang City United Distribution Business Group, adding significance to the event.
At the market site, citizens eager to purchase excellent local agricultural and marine specialty products sold by 25 local farms, as well as enjoy various experiences such as eco-bag making and wildflower embroidery, gathered to celebrate a festival of local agricultural products.
Additionally, pre-event activities included fusion janggu drum and local singer congratulatory performances, Kingsberry Cheong tasting, puffed rice snacks made from local Dasom rice, tuho throwing, jegichagi, luck-based roulette games, tasting of our rice Makgeolli, craft beer, and Pohang rice noodle tasting events, providing a variety of events and attractions that received great responses from visiting citizens.
Deputy Mayor Kim Nam-il said, “We are very pleased to be able to present citizens with more affordable and high-quality excellent agricultural, marine, and livestock products through the direct transaction market,” adding, “We hope this will greatly help farmers by stabilizing local consumer prices and expanding sales channels for agricultural and marine specialty products.”
