Over 43,000 Youth Aged 14-17 and Adult Leaders from 170 Countries Participate
25th World Scout Jamboree Assigns and Supports 'Youth Ambassadors' Role
Busan City is set to promote the 2030 Busan World Expo and the host candidate city, Busan, to youth worldwide in connection with the ‘25th World Scout Jamboree,’ which is being held in South Korea for the first time in 32 years.
The World Scout Jamboree is the largest international scouting event organized by the World Organization of the Scout Movement every four years. This year’s event will take place from August 1 to 12 in the Saemangeum area of Buan, Jeollabuk-do.
Approximately 43,000 participants, including youth aged 14 to 17 and adult leaders from about 170 countries, are expected to attend.
To utilize this event, where future leaders from around the world gather, as a platform to promote the 2030 Busan World Expo and the host candidate city Busan, the city has appointed around 100 scout youths representing Busan as youth ambassadors for the 2030 Busan World Expo and is supporting various activities for this purpose.
To help the youth acquire knowledge about the World Expo and understand the necessity of hosting it, a special lecture titled “Development Led by the World Expo and Scientific Competencies to Become Global Leaders” was held on May 20 at the Geumryeonsan Youth Training Center. The lecture featured Lee Seon-ho (age 34), a renowned science instructor, and was part of the launch ceremony for Busan’s representative participants.
Additionally, the participants spent time learning the group flash mob dance and the “2030 Busan World Expo Support Song” by singer Lee Mujin, which gained over 1.57 million views on social media (Instagram) and became a hot topic.
Furthermore, considering the scout culture of exchanging personal items, the city plans to produce and distribute about 1,300 items, including handkerchiefs and badges featuring designs promoting the 2030 Busan World Expo and Busan, to the city’s representative participants.
The city expects that the youth scouts representing Busan will naturally promote the 2030 Busan World Expo and Busan to youth worldwide by using the support song and distributed items during the Jamboree.
In particular, as active exchanges among participants increase and promotional content spreads further through their social media, it is anticipated that the 2030 Busan World Expo will gain global exposure.
Mayor Park Hyung-jun stated, “I am pleased that the ‘World Scout Jamboree,’ where future leaders of the world in 2030 build friendships and share cultures, is being held in our country. Through this event, we expect that Busan’s representative scouts will not only have the opportunity to nurture their dreams and grow as global citizens but also actively promote the 2030 Busan World Expo and the host candidate city Busan as youth ambassadors.”
