Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine, attended the Group of Seven (G7) summit held in Hiroshima, Japan, on the 21st in person.
President Zelensky participated in the session held on the closing day of the G7 summit alongside the heads of member countries. According to foreign media reports, President Zelensky took part in discussions focused on the Ukraine issue and was also invited to a session on peace and stability.
He is scheduled to hold individual meetings with President Yoon Suk-yeol, U.S. President Joe Biden, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. It is also reported that arrangements are being made for a visit to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and a press conference.
President Zelensky arrived in Hiroshima on the 20th to request support for Ukraine and appeal for stronger sanctions against Russia. This is the first time since Russia invaded Ukraine in February last year that President Zelensky has visited Asia.
In a joint statement released the previous day, the G7 declared, "Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is a serious violation of international law, including the UN Charter, and we condemn it in the strongest terms once again," adding, "We will continue to support Ukraine until peace is restored."
