Announcement of the 2023 KCIA Korea Consumer Industry Assessment Results for the 'Accommodation Industry'

KCA Korea Consumer Evaluation announced the results of the '2023 KCIA Korea Consumer Industry Evaluation Accommodation Sector,' hosted by the Korea Consumer Council and organized by Korea Consumer Evaluation.

This evaluation aims to realize the eight fundamental consumer rights guaranteed by Article 4 of the Framework Act on Consumers by publishing consumer evaluation results by industry according to the standard industrial classification, and to enhance the competitiveness and value of excellent hotels and accommodation facilities.

The 2023 KCIA Korea Consumer Industry Evaluation 'Accommodation Sector' is conducted annually to select and publicize companies that received excellent evaluations based on the actual experiences of consumers who used domestic hotels and accommodation facilities.

It was divided into two main categories: the hotel category, classified based on star-rated certified hotels by the Korea Tourism Association (KTA) and Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Tourism Association (JTA), and the accommodation category, which included general lodging businesses, residential lodging businesses, campgrounds, and camping sites.

From January to March, a preliminary survey was conducted nationwide targeting hotels and accommodation facilities, reflecting the number of reviews and ratings on portal sites and reservation applications. Approximately the top 32.66% nationwide were carefully selected as candidates, and regional and sector-specific candidate notifications were made. The final selection was made based on the evaluation criteria below.

The final evaluation criteria consisted of six items: △Facility Satisfaction △Cleanliness Satisfaction △Staff Friendliness △Response to Complaints △Accessibility △Overall Evaluation. One to a maximum of three excellent accommodation facilities were selected per region and sector. The announced list is as follows.

A representative from Korea Consumer Evaluation stated, “Changes in daily life, such as the need for rest and wellness and the emphasis on personal values seeking new experiences, are greatly influencing the accommodation industry. By selecting excellent accommodations that received high evaluations from users through comfortable and differentiated services, we expect to provide consumers with reasonable and easy assistance in choosing services that correspond to their individual experiential values.”
