Amid the ruling party's formation of a 'Coin Gate Task Force (TF)' to investigate the truth behind the multi-billion coin allegations involving Kim Nam-guk, a lawmaker who left the Democratic Party, Choi Hyung-doo, a member of the People Power Party belonging to the TF, criticized Kim, saying, "Lawmaker Kim is not properly providing explanations."
On the 19th, Choi said on YTN's 'News King Park Ji-hoon' program, "If he had only agreed, all transaction details from the exchange would have been disclosed and announced, allowing an investigation within the Democratic Party. But he did not do that, and it seems the Democratic Party could not investigate either."
He also compared Kim's attitude to that of former People Power Party lawmaker Yoon Hee-sook, who voluntarily resigned. Choi said, "Our party's Yoon resigned immediately after her father's real estate investment was revealed, stating that even the suspicion itself caused great damage to the authority of the National Assembly and public trust in it," adding, "At that time, didn't the public rather applaud such a pure and decisive action, even if it was excessive?"
He continued, "Isn't this primarily a matter concerning Kim's personal honor? And if he is innocent, he should be the first to provide ample evidence to prove his innocence," and questioned, "Why is he delaying this? Why is he not submitting consent forms so that these matters can be promptly revealed through the National Assembly and the Democratic Party's own investigation?"
The disciplinary proposal against Kim has been referred to the Ethics Committee for now. While the ruling party insists on skipping the deliberation period and immediately submitting the expulsion proposal to the plenary session, the opposition insists that procedures must be followed. Choi pointed out, "It is important to promptly provide answers to the public's pressing questions. I cannot understand why suddenly procedures and such are causing delays and wasting time."
The Coin Gate TF plans to visit Wemade for an on-site investigation that day. He said, "This is to thoroughly investigate whether there is any illegal hub or shadow, whether any special favors were shared, and whether some with unfair information have hijacked parts that all innovators and honest investors should share, thereby reducing market transparency and increasing uncertainty in this market, causing significant damage to honest investors."
Regarding the full-scale voluntary reporting survey on virtual assets, he said, "Our party plans to start revealing information about our own members even before all Democratic Party lawmakers agree to the full-scale survey," adding, "Did we not give up our immunity from arrest? About 50 of our party members have declared and renounced it themselves and announced it to the public. Is there anything more significant than that promise?"
