Shinan Bulmugido Maritime Event Involves 8 Organizations and Over 200 Participants
Mokpo Maritime Police Station (Chief Kim Hae-cheol) announced on the 17th that it conducted the "2023 Civil-Government-Military Joint Training for Marine Accident Preparedness" on the afternoon of the 16th at 2 PM near Bulmugido, Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do, to prepare for marine accidents during the agricultural fog season (March to July).

The training involved eight related organizations including the West Sea Regional Maritime Police Agency, Mokpo Maritime Police, Navy, Fire Department, Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation, and private marine rescue teams (drone search teams). Fourteen patrol vessels, one aircraft, and one ambulance were deployed.
The training scenario assumed a collision between a cargo ship and a passenger ship, with multiple persons falling into the sea and ship flooding situations. The focus was on △ guiding emergency evacuation inside the ship △ searching for drifting persons at sea using drones and dropping flotation devices △ actively utilizing the disaster safety communication network.
In particular, the training established a rescue system related to the six major marine accidents (collision, fire, sinking, grounding, flooding, capsizing), promoted public awareness of marine safety, built a rapid marine accident preparedness and response system, and strengthened an organic cooperative system among related organizations.
A Mokpo Maritime Police official stated, “Civil, government, and military cooperation will continue to conduct realistic training repeatedly to improve rescue response capabilities and do our best to protect the precious lives of the public.”
