Mayor Park first visited Miryang Arirang Market to receive a briefing on the 5.2 billion KRW parking lot expansion project and the 6 billion KRW commercial district renaissance project, and inspected the site.
The Miryang Arirang parking lot expansion project involves installing CCTV and an unmanned payment system and expanding the current parking lot into a large-scale parking facility with more than 70 parking spaces. It is expected to greatly contribute to solving the chronic parking problems of the traditional market and revitalizing the market.
He also inspected the commercial district renaissance project, which is being promoted through 20 projects including the youth start-up street creation project centered around Seokjeong-ro. Discussions were held on revitalizing the entire commercial district of the old downtown area connecting Miryang Arirang Market and the alleys of Haecheon and Donggari.
The city has promoted initiatives such as Uiyeol Pocha and Youth Festa to revitalize the commercial district in the old downtown area, and during the Miryang Arirang Festival period, it made every effort to strengthen the alley commercial district through programs like the ‘car-free street’.
Following this, Mayor Park received a detailed briefing on the festival and thoroughly inspected every facility and program of the grand festival venues, starting from Namcheon Riverside Road to Miryang Bridge, Sammun Riverside, and Sammun Pine Forest.
The government-designated cultural tourism festival, the Miryang Arirang Festival, which marks its 65th anniversary this year, attracted 420,000 visitors last year and achieved an economic effect of 17.3 billion KRW. This year as well, it is being prepared diversely as a cultural tourism festival that will bring vitality to citizen unity and the local economy, coinciding with the ‘2023 Miryang Visit Year.’
Under the slogan “Look at Me, See Miryang, Miryang Arirang in the World,” this festival, featuring a total of 38 diverse and distinctive programs including the killer content Miryanggang Odyssey, will illuminate the Miryang River and Yeongnamnu area with waves of light and Arirang over four days, providing unforgettable impressions to tourists.
Mayor Park said, “The Miryang Arirang Festival is our Miryang’s festival boasting deep history and tradition,” adding, “Thanks to the citizens who have worked together with the city, it has grown into a cultural tourism festival attracting tourists nationwide, achieving both the goals of citizen unity through the festival and revitalization of the local economy.”
He continued, “We will focus more on linking the projects underway in the festival site and traditional market area to create synergy effects, and prepare thoroughly so that the festival’s impact can spread throughout Miryang through meticulous on-site inspections.”
