Gomi Corporation Establishes Southeast Asia OTT Platform for Kids 'GomiPlay'

Global business solution innovation company GOMI CORPORATION announced on the 16th that it has established a joint venture in Singapore, GOMIPLAY, together with platform and app development specialist Foreground.

GOMIPLAY is a company operating a kids platform that combines kids content, commerce, and community targeting the Southeast Asian market. Through its self-developed online video service (OTT) platform, it provides a variety of popular animations and interactive play-learning content, and plans to operate a children’s specialty TV channel in collaboration with Vietnam’s national broadcaster VTV. In addition, it sells toy products and daily necessities using popular characters both online and offline, and aims to create a new consumption culture for kids content by building a virtuous cycle ecosystem through various events and community promotions.

Foreground offers over 15,000 play-learning contents and services major globally recognized character animations such as Pororo, Kongsuni, and Pinkfong through contracts. With the establishment of this joint venture, it will be able to provide diverse content experiences to ‘GOMIPLAY’ users. Furthermore, based on GOMI CORPORATION’s commerce experience and infrastructure in the Southeast Asian market, it provides import permits, import-export customs clearance, local fulfillment, and sales for toy products and daily necessities from domestic animation companies, as well as marketing for content and commerce targeting Southeast Asian customers.

As the global recognition of Korean animation and characters rises, demand for K-KIDS content is also gradually increasing in the rapidly growing Southeast Asian kids market. In particular, Vietnam is a market where children aged 0 to 9 account for 16.8% of the total population, with 1.5 million newborns annually. GOMIPLAY is keeping pace with this trend by currently partnering and collaborating with major domestic and international companies in character, media, distribution, education, and publishing sectors.

Lee Haewon, co-CEO of GOMIPLAY, expressed his aspirations, saying, “With the establishment of this joint venture, we hope GOMIPLAY will serve as a bridge to facilitate easy and fast entry and open innovation of Korean kids content and popular character products into the Southeast Asian market.”

Meanwhile, starting with Vietnam, GOMIPLAY plans to expand its revenue model and stabilize the market, then advance into new countries to become an all-in-one solution company based on the largest kids platform in Southeast Asia.
