Russia Expands Energy Sales in Asia Region
Also Aids Kazakhstan in Securing Gas Supplies
Russia plans to supply gas to China via Kazakhstan. This is seen as a strategy to offset losses in Asia as gas exports to Europe decrease.
According to major foreign media on the 16th (local time), Russia has agreed with Kazakhstan on the construction route of such a gas pipeline. Almasadam Satkaliyev, Kazakhstan's Minister of Energy, stated, "The gas pipeline route from Russia through northern Kazakhstan to China has been decided," adding, "Discussions are underway regarding the conditions for constructing the pipeline."
Through this, Russia is expected to increase energy sales in the Asian region, while Kazakhstan will be able to secure gas supplies for its central, northern, and eastern regions.
Earlier, due to the war with Ukraine, the volume of gas exports from Russia to Europe via pipelines nearly halved last year. To compensate for this, Russia is expanding trade and strengthening political relations with Asian countries such as China.
Currently, Russia exports gas to China through the 'Power of Siberia' pipeline, which is over 2,000 km long. The gas supplied through this pipeline is expected to reach an annual maximum transport capacity of 38 billion cubic meters by 2025. Additionally, the two countries are discussing the construction of the 'Power of Siberia-2' pipeline, with an annual maximum transport capacity of 50 billion cubic meters, which would run from Russia through Mongolia to China.
