Samsung's 1Q Korean Laptop Market Share Hits 52% Thanks to 'Galaxy Book3' Effect

This quarter's market share of 52.0% represents a 16.4 percentage point increase from the previous quarter's 35.6%. Compared to last year (34.2%), it rose by 17.8 percentage points. It is the first time in eight years since the first quarter of 2015 (51.1%) that Samsung Electronics' laptop market share has exceeded 50%. The company evaluated that it has solidified its overwhelming number one position in the domestic laptop market.

The significant increase in Samsung Electronics' laptop market share is attributed to the tremendous popularity of the newly launched 'Galaxy Book3 Series' in February this year. The product has gained great popularity among university students preparing for the new semester and has also received favorable reviews from creator consumers seeking high-performance laptops. In fact, the 'Galaxy Book3 Series' sold out across various distribution channels, including 'Samsung.com,' during the domestic pre-sale in February. Global sales, including domestic, recorded 2.5 times the sales of its predecessor within one month of launch.

The 'Galaxy Book3 Series' features a 3K resolution 'Dynamic AMOLED 2X' display, providing more vivid colors and clearer image quality, and boasts excellent portability with its thin thickness and light weight. The smooth connectivity based on the Galaxy ecosystem is also highly praised by consumers, allowing users to connect the Book3 Series with various Galaxy products such as smartphones and tablets, using them as if they were a single device, offering convenience to users.

In particular, the newly introduced high-performance high-end laptop 'Galaxy Book3 Ultra,' launched in mid-February, has driven sales performance by selling more than 5,000 units domestically by the end of March. Market research firm IDC explained, "In an environment of high economic uncertainty, premium PCs that meet consumer demand are leading the market."

Lee Min-cheol, Executive Director and Head of the Galaxy Eco Business Team at Samsung Electronics MX Division, said, "We are pleased that the Galaxy Book3 Series, which offers powerful performance and smooth connectivity experience, has received great love from domestic consumers," adding, "We will continue to introduce innovative laptop products that exceed consumer expectations."
