The (tentatively named) Gyeongbuk Office of Education Early Childhood Education Promotion Institute is a dedicated educational institution that will conduct research and provide information on early childhood education, develop programs and teaching materials, offer kindergarten teacher training, conduct kindergarten evaluations, provide parent education, family support, and early childhood experiential education programs. It is scheduled to open in June 2026 on a site of 14,765㎡ with a total floor area of 5,832㎡ located at Imbong-gil, Sandong-eup, Gumi City (former Imbong Elementary School).

The Early Childhood Education Promotion Institute plans to operate state-of-the-art play experience spaces using edutech technology, nature-friendly experiential spaces, counseling for young children, experiential programs for marginalized groups such as multicultural families, professional development for teachers at each life cycle stage, and parent education and family support programs.

Gumi City, with a total population of approximately 410,000, an infant and toddler population of 20,660, and an average age of 40, is the youngest city in Gyeongbuk Province. It is accelerating efforts to create a happy city for children, parents, and teachers by operating the 365 Pediatric and Adolescent Medical Center, opening the Gumi City Childcare Comprehensive Support Center, and expanding nighttime childcare facilities.

Mayor Kim Jang-ho emphasized that just as raising children requires the whole village, the Gyeongbuk Office of Education, the Provincial Council, and Gumi City must all work together with one heart for our children, stating, “We will fully support and cooperate for the smooth operation of the Early Childhood Education Promotion Institute and to make Gumi a city good for raising children.”
