A kindergarten teacher in China who earned 10 times her annual salary from a single internet live broadcast quit her job.

According to the US Asia-focused media outlet NextShark on the 13th, Ms. Huang, a kindergarten teacher in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China, gave up her original job after earning 500,000 yuan (about 96 million KRW) from her first internet live broadcast, which she started to communicate with her fans.

Previously, Ms. Huang gained popularity by uploading videos on Douyin (the Chinese version of TikTok), a short-form video platform in China, where she taught children's songs with hand choreography. She amassed over 4 million subscribers. Until then, Ms. Huang worked as a kindergarten teacher on weekdays and produced and edited video content during weekends and after work.

Ms. Huang turned on the internet live broadcast earlier this month. She responded to her subscribers' requests to "turn on the live broadcast just once."

As soon as she started the live broadcast, numerous Chinese fans showered her with donation bombs (a term for donations or sponsorships). The flood of fan support even caused the broadcast to be temporarily interrupted, showcasing her popularity.

She earned about 400,000 to 500,000 yuan (approximately 77 million to 96 million KRW) that day. Her monthly salary as a kindergarten teacher was 3,000 yuan (about 600,000 KRW). She earned more than 10 times her annual salary from just one broadcast.

Near the end of the live broadcast, Ms. Huang said, "I am so happy to have earned more in one day of broadcasting than 10 years' worth of salary. I am grateful."

Ms. Huang subsequently quit her kindergarten teaching job. She joined an MCN (Multi-Channel Network) agency managing individual broadcasters and became a full-time internet broadcaster. It is reported that she earned 2 million yuan (about 385 million KRW) from three more broadcasts afterward.

Among Chinese netizens, there were supportive comments such as "I hope she finds a path that suits her aptitude," as well as bittersweet opinions like "It seems money has become the most important thing in a world where a teacher who educates children can quit immediately."
