AI-Based Brain Hemorrhage Diagnosis... Accuracy Over 98%
Developing B2B AI Services with Naver Cloud
On the first floor of the radiology room at the Ulleung-gun Health Medical Center, the only medical institution on Ulleungdo Island, there is an artificial intelligence (AI) system that assists doctors. It is the AI brain hemorrhage imaging medical solution 'Medical Insight Plus Brain Hemorrhage' developed by SK C&C Co., Ltd. The AI analyzes brain computed tomography (CT) images within seconds and informs medical staff of the hemorrhage location and abnormalities. Its accuracy exceeds 98%. It can detect small and subtle hemorrhages that humans might easily miss, securing the 'golden time' for brain hemorrhage patients.
Targeting the Global Healthcare Market with AI Diagnostic Solutions
SK C&C trained the AI with approximately 100,000 brain CT image data sets. Through this, they developed a solution that marks suspected brain hemorrhage areas on CT images and presents the likelihood as a probability value. The solution underwent clinical trials involving Seoul National University Hospital and Ajou University Hospital. The clinical trial results showed that the accuracy of image interpretation by radiologists assisted by the solution increased by 2.8 percentage points compared to before. The golden time for brain hemorrhage is only three hours, making accurate diagnosis crucial, and AI plays a significant role in this.

Medical Insight Plus Brain Hemorrhage was the first AI brain hemorrhage diagnostic medical device in Korea to receive Class 3 medical device approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in 2021. Currently, it is used in over 30 major medical institutions nationwide, including Seoul, Gyeonggi, Incheon, and Daegu. It is also deployed in public medical institutions such as Pyeongchang-gun in Gangwon Province, Muju-gun in Jeollabuk Province, and Baengnyeong Hospital, assisting doctors in medically underserved areas.
SK C&C is tapping into the global healthcare market with its AI diagnostic solution. Its partner is Microsoft (MS). Medical Insight Plus has been included as a strategic partner solution on MS's cloud platform, Azure. Hospitals can install the solution and receive post-installation management through MS Azure. Clinical trials and medical device approval processes are underway according to regulatory environments in each country. The plan is to target Asia and Oceania first, regions with high interest in digital healthcare.
Discovering Industry-Specific AI Services with Naver Cloud
With the rapid rise of ChatGPT, SK C&C has embarked on discovering ultra-large AI services tailored to various industry sectors. To this end, they established a ChatGPT business development task force (TF). Its role is to support corporate clients in utilizing ultra-large AI according to their business needs.
To accelerate AI service discovery, SK C&C partnered with Naver Cloud. Naver Cloud possesses its own ultra-large AI model called 'HyperCLOVA.' This summer, they are preparing an advanced version called 'HyperCLOVA X.' By combining SK C&C’s B2B business experience with Naver’s AI technology, they plan to create synergy.
The two companies are jointly developing hybrid AI services. They are initially targeting the financial industry, where precise task processing is critical. They are exploring services for sectors such as banking, securities, credit cards, insurance, and capital, focusing on call center automation. AI will support tasks such as card issuance and settlement, insurance contract management, and insurance claim payments.
Yoon Poong-young, CEO of SK C&C, stated, "Starting with finance, we will actively discover, develop, and expand ultra-large AI services across public and enterprise sectors. We will provide customized, accurate, and cost-effective ultra-large AI systems and services tailored to all customer business sites."
