Lee Won-wook: "Kim Nam-guk's Party Resignation Is Just an Excuse... He Should Be Disciplined"

Emphasis on the Need for a Comprehensive Survey of Virtual Assets
Order for Strict Response from Party Leadership

Lee Won-wook, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated on the 12th, "There are talks about Kim Nam-guk voluntarily leaving the party, but voluntary withdrawal cannot be a solution to the problem," and pointed out, "Leaving the party is merely a means to evade responsibility." He argued that the party leadership should not accept Kim's resignation letter amid allegations of cryptocurrency investment but should instead initiate disciplinary procedures.

Lee posted on Facebook that day, "Even if Kim Nam-guk tries to leave the party, the leadership should, regrettably, not accept the resignation letter," expressing concern that "once he leaves, the party loses any ability to take action immediately." He added, "Leaving the party is just a way to avoid responsibility. It only shows that the party does not want to be the accountable entity."

He continued, "There has been a flood of criticism against the Democratic Party due to the ongoing coin controversy, and there are sarcastic remarks that the Democratic Party has fallen into the swamp of coins," adding, "Yet, there are still opinions within the party that protect Kim Nam-guk." He also criticized this as "an embarrassing display that shows how disconnected the party is from the public's sentiment."

Lee said, "The Democratic Party's benevolence should be directed not inwardly but toward the lives of socially vulnerable people," and emphasized, "It is our duty as members of the Democratic Party to ask 'why?' and hold political and moral responsibility accountable."

Referring to the People Power Party's disciplinary actions against Kim Jae-won and Tae Young-ho, Lee said, "Neither leaving the party nor encouraging resignation is a solution but a means to avoid the problem. The misconduct of party members can never be just an individual issue." He urged the party leadership, saying, "The leadership must directly step up to resolve the problems created by the Democratic Party. That is the reason for the leadership's existence," and stressed, "The Democratic Party must demonstrate its ability to self-purify."

He also expressed the need for a comprehensive investigation of all Democratic Party lawmakers regarding virtual assets. Lee stated, "Not only registered exchanges but also overseas and domestic unregistered exchanges should be included, and any lawmaker holding coin wallets should voluntarily report to the party," adding, "The leadership must show a strong resolve that if any lawmaker who avoids voluntary reporting is later found to have invested in coins, strong measures such as exclusion from nominations will be taken to ensure effectiveness."

In conclusion, Lee emphasized, "The Democratic Party must start the path of comprehensive reform beginning with initiating disciplinary procedures against Kim Nam-guk," and stressed, "There is no more time to hesitate."
