Why Did Malaysian Officials Visit Seongbuk-gu?

Two Malaysian Petaling Jaya City Officials Work at Seongbuk-gu Office for One Month from May 8 to June 5

Continuous Exchange Projects Pursued Since Establishing Sister City Relationship with Malaysian Petaling Jaya City in 2017

Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) welcomed two officials from its overseas sister city, Petaling Jaya City, Malaysia, who arrived on May 8 for a one-month short-term dispatch to work at the Seongbuk-gu Office.

The two Petaling Jaya City officials selected for this dispatch program (Mohamed Jufadli bin Burhan and Boni Anak Eddy) will work for one month in the Administrative Support Division, Real Estate Information Division, and Culture and Sports Division of Seongbuk-gu Office. They will benchmark Seongbuk-gu’s excellent policies and administrative systems and experience various educational and administrative programs.

In particular, the dispatched officials from Petaling Jaya City will visit the Seongbuk 50 Plus Center, Seongbuk-gu Parent-Child Support Center, and Seoul Citizen Media Center located in Seongbuk-gu to benchmark advanced cases, which are expected to be applied to the future establishment of Petaling Jaya City’s Senior Center and Lifelong Learning Center.

Additionally, by working directly in related departments and learning excellent administrative cases, they will participate in the Seongbuk World Food Festival Nurimasil scheduled for the 21st, experiencing various contents such as food, markets, hands-on activities, and performances, fully immersing themselves in the charm of the global city Seongbuk.

Why Did Malaysian Officials Visit Seongbuk-gu?

Mohamed Jufadli bin Burhan (Asset Evaluation Division, Petaling Jaya City), who participated in this short-term exchange program, expressed, “I sincerely thank you for giving me the opportunity to work at Seongbuk-gu Office and for the warm welcome. I want to learn all the excellent policies and governance activities implemented in Seongbuk-gu.”

Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, stated, “Seongbuk-gu will actively support Malaysian Petaling Jaya City officials to gain valuable experiences in Korea, and we hope that cooperation and exchanges between the two countries will continue to be more active, maintaining a mutually developing relationship.”

Since signing the sister city agreement with Seongbuk-gu in 2017, Petaling Jaya City has visited Korea for benchmarking cleaning administration and netball friendly matches, and has invited youth from Seongbuk-gu to the Petaling Jaya City Youth Leadership Camp.

Mayor Lee Seung-ro attended the '2022 Asian Smart City Conference' held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in early October last year as a representative of Seongbuk-gu, presenting the district’s representative smart city projects. After the conference, he visited Petaling Jaya City and met with Mayor Mohamad Azhan Md Amir to discuss the short-term official exchange program.

Seongbuk-gu and Petaling Jaya City will continue to promote ongoing exchanges and cooperation in the future.
