Gaining Opportunities to Explore Career Information

The Meister Mentor Group (led by Shim Il-seop) conducted an industrial site tour on the 11th at Gumi defense companies ‘LIG Nex1’ and ‘Hanwha Systems’.

The tour was part of the Meister Mentor Group project and was carried out together with 34 students and faculty advisors from Gumi Electronics Technical High School, which formed mentor-mentee partnerships last year, as well as officials from the Gyeongbuk Employers Federation and Gumi City Hall.


This program provided key information and expected benefits of the Gumi Defense Innovation Cluster project, along with detailed career information such as basic theories of the defense industry, future value, eligibility for support, and job planning.


In the morning, the group visited Hanwha Systems, and in the afternoon, LIG Nex1, touring the defense industry production processes and experimental facilities.


Gumi succeeded in attracting the Defense Innovation Cluster in 2023, and with LIG Nex1 and Hanwha Systems?two of Korea’s top 10 defense companies?operating locally, along with anchor companies and about 180 defense small and medium enterprises in the region, this tour is expected to help students recognize the potential of the defense industry and improve accessibility to local defense industry employment, serving as a catalyst for nurturing regional specialized talent.


Lee Woon-gyun, Director of the Labor Welfare Division, stated, “Through the site tour of defense industry companies, which were previously difficult to access due to security reasons, we hope that young Meisters will discover the value of our local defense companies and advance as specialized technical talents in the defense industry.”


The Gumi City Meister Mentor Group is an organization aimed at fostering a social atmosphere that values skilled technicians and cultivating technical experts. It is composed of Korean Masters, top artisans from Gyeongbuk Province and Gumi City, university professors in the area, and Meister High School teachers. The group promotes various projects including Meister High School industrial site tours, career aptitude education programs, SME technology support consulting, and community service activities.
