Ryu Ho-jeong on 'Park Won-soon Documentary': "Stop making those... The content itself is secondary harm"

Assembly Member Ryu Ho-jeong CBS Radio Interview
"Memorials and Art Are Good, But Being Human Comes First"

As a documentary about the late Park Won-soon, former mayor of Seoul, is being released, Ryu Ho-jeong, a member of the Justice Party, raised her voice, saying that the screening of the film itself constitutes secondary harm, adding, "The mere existence of interviews and various content will bring even greater stress to the victim again."

On the 11th, Ryu appeared on CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show' and said, "I hope they would stop it. There is no way that the legacy of former Mayor Park, who was a human rights lawyer, is like this," adding, "Memorials and art are good, but I hope people become human beings first."

Ryu said, "There are parts in the movie that deny the facts of the sexual crimes, aren't there?" and added, "Whether or not sexual crimes occurred could not be confirmed due to Mayor Park Won-soon's death. Because it was obvious that such secondary harm would be committed, the victim had to at least receive a minimum legal judgment."

She continued, "That is why the current decision by the National Human Rights Commission came out, and the Commission decided that Mayor Park Won-soon's sexual behavior was sexual objectification and sexual harassment toward a subordinate employee," adding, "After the Human Rights Commission's decision, the victim said, 'I sincerely ask that the exhausting debates be stopped now.'"

Regarding the claim, "Don't label all questioning as secondary harm," Ryu responded, "What was inflicted on the victim at that time was a collective lynching," and pointed out, "The people who made that documentary then and now are making claims rejecting the judgment of this administration. If such content is produced, there will be a flood of harsh comments underneath, and imagine the victim seeing those."

Finally, Ryu said, "It is so frustrating why the Democratic Party of Korea refuses to accept this judgment," and added, "I hope they stop now."
