New Artistic Director and Head of National Contemporary Dance Company Appointed: Contemporary Dancer Kim Seong-yong

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 11th that it has appointed Kim Seong-yong (47), CEO of Dance Company Mui, as the director and artistic director of the National Contemporary Dance Company. The term is three years.

Director Kim, a professional dancer majoring in contemporary dance, completed his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in the Department of Dance at Hanyang University.


He won the gold prize at the 1997 Dong-A Dance Competition in Korea and became the first Korean to win an award at the 2002 Nagoya International Contemporary Dance Competition in Japan, standing out on domestic and international stages.


As a dancer-turned-choreographer, he created excellent works and was internationally recognized through various activities in France, the United States, Japan, and other countries. He served as the artistic director and resident choreographer of the Daegu City Dance Company.


An official from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said, "We expect the National Contemporary Dance Company to advance to the next level through the new director's experience accumulated on stage as an artist and his young and creative leadership."
