Elementary Students in Gyeongnam Unfold Their Dreams at the Science Imagination Drawing Contest

Korea Institute of Materials Science Holds First In-Person Event in 4 Years

The Korea Institute of Materials Science (KIMS), a government-funded research institute under the Ministry of Science and ICT, will hold the 14th Gyeongnam Elementary School Students' Science Imagination Drawing Contest on the 20th.

This contest, a regional science culture event and social contribution activity hosted by the Materials Institute, will be held in person for the first time in four years.

According to KIMS, the contest targets about 400 elementary school students and their families from the Gyeongnam area who pre-registered on April 24.

Participants are asked to express their visions of the future of science through drawings. Students from grades 1 to 3 may choose any topic freely, while those from grades 4 to 6 must follow the announced theme on the day of the contest.

After the contest, awards and prizes will be given to a total of 35 winners, including grand prize, gold, silver, and bronze awards.

On the day of the contest, KIMS will also hold a materials science experience event, offering programs such as a science magic show, science events, and safety experiences.

Director Lee Jeong-hwan said, “The Gyeongnam Elementary School Students' Science Imagination Drawing Contest has overcome the COVID-19 pandemic and is finally holding its 14th event,” adding, “We are grateful for the support from the residents every year.”

He continued, “KIMS always values children's dreams and imaginations about science, and we will devote ourselves sincerely to research so that these can be realized as soon as possible.”
