"‘Report Stalking’... 40s Man Sentenced to 40 Years for Killing Ex-Girlfriend's 8-Year-Old Son"

A man in his 40s who wielded a weapon against a woman who reported him as a stalker and her son, resulting in the son's death, was sentenced to a heavy prison term.

On the 11th, the Criminal Division 1 of Daegu District Court Seobu Branch (Chief Judge Im Dong-han) sentenced Kim, a man in his 40s, who was indicted on charges of murder and attempted murder, to 40 years in prison. He was also ordered to complete a 40-hour sexual violence treatment program, be restricted from employment at child-related institutions for 7 years, and wear an electronic tracking device for 20 years.

Kim was tried on charges of wielding a weapon against a woman in her 30s, A (Chinese nationality), and her son B (8 years old) during an argument at A’s multi-family house in Dalseong-gun, Daegu, around 8 a.m. on November 28 last year, causing B’s death. He is also accused of forcibly putting A into his car, confining her, and attempting to sexually assault her.

Investigations revealed that Kim committed the crime in a rage after A, whom he had dated and broken up with, filed a stalking report against him.

Chief Judge Im stated the sentencing rationale: “The defendant committed an inhumane and antisocial crime by mercilessly killing the victim child, who was only 8 years old, because the child interfered with the crime, and by ignoring the victim’s pleas for child protection. Furthermore, he still shows no remorse.”
