Follow-up measures on 'Establishing a New Digital Order'
"Efforts to Ensure AI Ethics and Reliability"
Park Yoon-kyu, the 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT, held an on-site meeting at Genesis Lab in Seoul on the 11th to secure AI ethics and reliability. This was in response to the spread of large-scale and generative AI such as ChatGPT. It is also a follow-up measure to the Cabinet meeting agenda on "Establishing a New Digital Order."
First, Choi Dong-won, Director of the Ministry of Science and ICT, presented the progress and future plans of policies, including the establishment of AI ethics standards, preparation of practical measures (self-checklists and development guides), and operation of the Ethics Policy Forum. Then, Moon Jung-wook, Director of KISDI, introduced the contents of the ‘self-checklist’ developed by the Ministry of Science and ICT and KISDI, which allows planners and operators to self-assess compliance with AI ethics standards. Cases of on-site application by companies in chatbot, writing, and video fields were also shared.
Lee Kang-hae, Director of TTA, presented the contents of the ‘development guide’ containing technical requirements for developers to refer to, and how the development guides for public society, medical, and autonomous driving sectors have been utilized. Song Dae-seop, Director at Naver, introduced the ‘Naver AI Ethics Code’ created in collaboration with the Seoul National University AI Policy Initiative (SAPI), and Kim Yoo-chul, Head of LG AI Research, presented the company’s efforts and future plans to strengthen AI ethics and reliability, focusing on the ‘LG AI Ethics Principles.’ Lee Young-bok, CEO of Genesis Lab, reported on the current status of applying the development guide.
Vice Minister Park Yoon-kyu stated, “Since securing AI ethics and reliability at every stage from technology development to utilization is directly linked to the survival of companies, we will make greater efforts to ensure AI ethics and reliability based on the discussions held at the meeting.”
