Confirmed Contact with Component Supplying Electricity

In the early morning of the 10th, a snake touched electrical equipment, causing a power outage that lasted over an hour in apartments and detached houses in Ilsanseo-gu, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi Province.

According to Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), a blackout occurred around 1:44 a.m. in the Gajwa-dong area of Ilsanseo-gu, Goyang-si.

KEPCO staff who arrived at the scene confirmed that a snake had come into contact with some parts of the power receiving equipment supplying electricity from outside. KEPCO stated, "The exact cause is under investigation."

As a result, electricity supply was cut off for 66 minutes to 782 households in one apartment building in Gajwa-dong and nearby detached houses, causing inconvenience to residents. However, KEPCO reported, "Electricity supply is currently being restored normally."

A KEPCO official explained, "It appears that a momentary power outage occurred because a snake touched the power receiving equipment," adding, "There are often cases where birds or snakes come into contact with electrical lines, leading to power outages."
