Huons has expanded its presence in the male prostate health functional food market with 'Prostate Sagunja,' which contains Sagunja Extract Powder, an individually recognized ingredient for prostate health.

The main ingredient of Prostate Sagunja, 'Sagunja Extract Powder,' is a newly individually recognized ingredient certified by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety after 12 years. Through human clinical trials, significant improvements were confirmed in the total International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) and individual items including ▲nocturia ▲urgency ▲residual urine sensation ▲frequency ▲dysuria ▲urinary retention ▲delayed urination ▲life inconvenience ▲weak urine flow. Prior to the human trials, animal studies demonstrated that oral administration of Sagunja Extract Powder significantly reduced prostate weight and growth-related factors in prostate tissue.

Additionally, it is packaged in individually sealed PTP packaging that is resistant to moisture and oxidation, allowing for stable and hygienic storage.

Huons expects high demand for products that middle-aged and older men can use to prevent and manage prostate diseases in daily life, as prostate-related diseases are representative symptoms of male menopause, but many patients are reluctant to seek hospital treatment due to the nature of urological diseases, often leading to worsening conditions.

Huons' independently developed Sagunja Extract Powder has been registered in SCIE journals through clinical papers. The results of human clinical trials on the efficacy and safety of Sagunja Extract Powder for improving male lower urinary tract symptoms were recently published as an abstract in 'ICUrology,' the official SCIE-level journal of the Korean Urological Association.

This study was a human clinical trial conducted on 135 men with moderate benign prostatic hyperplasia symptoms at the Department of Urology, Seoul St. Mary's Hospital, Catholic University, and the Department of Urology, Guro Hospital, Korea University. The trial evaluated changes in the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA), testosterone, dihydrotestosterone, maximum urinary flow rate, post-void residual volume, and International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF-5), as well as the safety of Sagunja Extract Powder.

The test foods were set as low-dose (1000 mg) and high-dose (2000 mg) Sagunja Extract Powder groups, with a placebo group as control, and were consumed for a total of 12 weeks. As a result, both low-dose and high-dose groups showed significant improvement in total IPSS scores after 12 weeks compared to the placebo group.

In the low-dose group, significant improvements were observed in individual items including ▲nocturia ▲urgency ▲residual urine sensation ▲frequency ▲urinary retention ▲delayed urination ▲life inconvenience score ▲weak urine flow compared to the control group. In the high-dose group, significant effects were confirmed compared to the control group except for ▲urgency and ▲weak urine flow. Regarding the IIEF-5 sub-scores, sexual pleasure scores improved in the high-dose group compared to the placebo group at 12 weeks, while the low-dose group showed the greatest increase in maximum urinary flow rate and decrease in post-void residual volume at 6 weeks.
