Support Reaches $1 Million for Korean American Family Victimized in US Shooting

Three Family Members Killed in Shooting... Only Eldest Son Survives
"Fundraising Page Created to Cover Funeral and Other Expenses"

A heartbreaking story of a Korean-American family who were victims of a mass shooting at a shopping mall in the Dallas suburb of Texas has come to light, prompting many to join in donations.

On the 8th (local time), a fundraising page was created on the U.S. crowdfunding site GoFundMe, featuring the English names, family photo, and story of the couple Kyu-Sung Cho (38) and Shin-Young Kang (36) and their two children, requesting support.

Previously, the couple and their 3-year-old child were fatally shot at the scene of the mass shooting that occurred on the 6th at a shopping mall in the Dallas suburb of Texas.

The only survivor of the shooting, their eldest son, is currently hospitalized. He was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound to his shoulder at the time of the incident. After surgery, his physical condition has somewhat improved, but he is reported to be in a state of severe psychological shock.

The page creator stated, "We are friends of this family," and added, "That afternoon, which should have been filled with light, love, and blessings, ended in an instant with a mass shooting massacre that left eight victims. Cindy (Shin-Young Kang), Kyu (Kyu-Sung Cho), and 3-year-old James were tragically among the victims who lost their lives, and the family is deeply grieving."

They continued, "William, the 6-year-old son who was discharged from the (hospital) intensive care unit, became the only survivor among the family in this horrific incident," and said, "This page was created to help the family cover funeral and other necessary expenses."

The initial fundraising goal was $50,000, but it was reached in no time. The current amount raised is $1,177,530 (approximately 1.56 billion KRW) with over 23,000 participants. This was achieved within 15 hours of the campaign's start.

The fundraising page has received over 700 comments mourning the deceased family. Supporters left messages such as "Deepest condolences," "William, your mom and dad will always watch over you," "We are with you, William," and "We adults are sorry," encouraging William, who was left alone.
