Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Launches Support Task Force to Prepare for Passage of Special Act on Jeonse Fraud

After Law Passage, Transition to 'Jeonse Fraud Victim Support Team'

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 9th that it will launch the 'Jeonse Fraud Victim Support Preparation Team.' This is to implement policies immediately once the three special laws related to support for victims of Jeonse fraud, currently under discussion at the National Assembly's Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee's bill review subcommittee, are passed.

The preparation team will be temporarily operated with about 20 members across three teams. After the special laws are passed, it is planned to be converted into a regular organization tentatively named the 'Jeonse Fraud Victim Support Team' through consultations with related ministries.

An official from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport stated, "To implement policies under the special laws, it is necessary to select victims through a fact-finding survey and request cooperation for postponement of auctions and public sales," adding, "We will thoroughly prepare in advance through the preparation team to ensure these tasks are carried out without any gaps."

First, to facilitate a smooth fact-finding survey, a cooperative system will be established with local governments, and a survey manual will be prepared. To reasonably select support targets, a 'Jeonse Fraud Victim Support Committee' composed of about 30 housing lease experts will be formed, and review criteria will also be prepared in advance.

Above all, efforts will be made to ensure the special laws are enacted promptly. The ruling and opposition parties attempted to merge the special laws at the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee subcommittee meetings on the 1st and 3rd, but failed to narrow differences over the scope of victims and relief methods. It is reported that the possibility of holding a subcommittee meeting on the 10th is currently under discussion.

Minister Won Hee-ryong of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said, "Although the law has not yet passed, we will do our best to make thorough preparations in advance so that victims of Jeonse fraud can be supported promptly."
