Itaewon, This Time with Antique & Vintage Vibes

Yongsan-gu Supports Itaewon Spring Antique & Vintage Festival

Held for 4 days from May 11 to 14... Largest scale in festival history with participation of 80 businesses

Organic support system formed with Antique Furniture Street Association, Sookmyung Women's University Campustown Project Group, etc.

Flea market, commemorative photo events, busking performances, and more

Walking along the alley between exits 3 and 4 of Itaewon Station on Subway Line 6, you will encounter a different side of Itaewon. This is the Antique Furniture Street, lined with European-style old furniture shops. From the 11th to the 14th, the 'Itaewon Spring Antique & Vintage Festival' will be held here for four days.

This festival is hosted by the Antique Furniture Street Association and sponsored by Yongsan-gu, Seoul. To revive the Itaewon commercial district, which has been stagnant since the October 29 tragedy, the district has formed an organic support system not only with the Antique Furniture Street Association but also with the Sookmyung Women's University Campustown Project Group.

This year, the festival will see participation from about 80 businesses, 10 more than last year. This is the largest scale in the festival's more than 10-year history. The main programs of the festival include ▲ Antique Flea Market ▲ Commemorative Photo Events ▲ Orchestral Performances.

The flea market operates by each store setting up tables and tents, selling furniture, lighting fixtures, and accessories at discounts of up to 70-80%. Nine large-scale wine importers are participating, offering wine tastings and discounted sales. The tasting event will be held near 51 Noksapyeong-daero 26-gil from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

During the festival, photo booths and photo walls will be installed to provide entertainment for visitors. In addition to renting antique accessories, professional models dressed in antique costumes and photographers will roam the Antique Furniture Street, taking photos of visitors and printing them on the spot.

Other busking cultural and artistic events include street performances by a saxophone club composed of members of the Antique Furniture Street Association and a senior fashion show (May 13). The Sookmyung Women's University club re-face completed a mural within the Antique Furniture Street, creating a bright street atmosphere.

Kim Seonsu, Acting Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, "Through this event showcasing the unique sensibility of Itaewon's Antique Furniture Street, we expect to attract not only vintage enthusiasts but also a broader customer base, thereby finding momentum to revitalize the commercial district."

Meanwhile, Itaewon Antique Furniture Street naturally formed in the 1970s when US 8th Army officers and embassy staff sold furniture they used before returning home. About 80 old furniture shops (as of April 2023) are located from Itaewon Station to Cheonghwa Apartments and from Cheonghwa Apartments to the Saudi Arabian Embassy.

Mapo-gu Office 11th Floor Opens Personal Local Income (Comprehensive Income) Tax Filing and Payment Desk

Taxpayers who received the ‘Moduchaeum Notice’ only need to pay via virtual account without separate filing

Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) announced that taxpayers subject to the 2022 comprehensive income tax final filing must file and pay personal local income tax and comprehensive income tax by May 31.

Personal local income tax must be filed and paid separately from comprehensive income tax, and failure to file or pay within the period will result in penalties.

Filing methods include electronic filing, mobile filing, and mail or in-person filing, allowing taxpayers to choose the most convenient method.

Electronic filing is available on the Hometax (comprehensive income tax) and Wetax (local income tax) websites. Mobile filing can be done through the ‘Sontax’ app, where after filing comprehensive income tax, users can press the ‘File Local Income Tax’ button to be linked to the Wetax site for filing.

For in-person filing, taxpayers can visit the nearest tax office or city/county/district tax department. Mapo-gu has set up a separate filing desk on the 11th floor meeting room of the district office to guide the filing and payment procedures for comprehensive income tax and personal local income tax.

Especially, taxpayers such as small business owners who received the ‘Moduchaeum Notice’ with pre-calculated payable tax amounts can simply pay via the virtual account listed on the notice without needing a separate filing process, making it more convenient.

Payments for local income tax can be made directly at financial institutions using the payment slip printed from the Wetax site, or via card or virtual account on the site. Comprehensive income tax payments can be made similarly through the Hometax site.

A district official urged taxpayers to file and pay with ample time before the deadline on May 31, as increased users on the last day may cause inconvenience in electronic filing systems or bank services.

This year, the payment deadline for personal local income tax will also be extended by three months for wildfire-affected taxpayers and exporters who have been notified of an automatic extension for comprehensive income tax payment.

For more detailed information regarding filing and payment, taxpayers can receive friendly guidance through the Mapo-gu Local Income Tax Division or the consultation call center.

Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, "The convenience of taxpayers should be the top priority in filing and paying not only local income tax but all taxes. We will actively provide tax information and improve tax processing systems to make tax payment easier and more convenient."
