The Presidential Office disclosed on the 6th the gifts received by President Yoon Suk-yeol and his wife from the U.S. side during their state visit to the United States from the 24th to the 29th of last month. The Presidential Office explained that these gifts hold special significance as they were thoughtful presents considering the hobbies and preferences of the President and the First Lady.

According to the Presidential Office, President Yoon and his wife received a small table and a vase as state gifts from President Biden and the First Lady. The small table partially reused wood that had been used in the White House, and the vase was decorated with handcrafted paper flowers of the national flowers of both countries, the Mugunghwa and the rose.

Additionally, at the state dinner where President Yoon gained attention for singing the song "American Pie," they received a guitar personally signed by the original singer Don McLean, and before leaving Washington, they were gifted a commemorative photo album of the state visit to the U.S.

President Biden, who enjoys baseball, gifted President Yoon a baseball depicting Nationals Park, the home stadium of the Washington Nationals of Major League Baseball, a glass box containing a gold leather baseball embossed with the seal of the President of the United States, and a vintage baseball collection consisting of a bat, glove, and baseball in a large frame featuring the Philadelphia Phillies logo.


To First Lady Kim Geon-hee, he presented a blue sapphire necklace crafted by Korean-American jewelry designer Jenny Kwon. According to the Presidential Office, blue sapphire is the national gemstone of the United States and also the birthstone for September, the month of the First Lady’s birthday.

The Presidential Office also revealed gifts from Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who joined the state luncheon during the visit. Vice President Harris and her spouse gifted a booklet containing Korean cooking recipes harmonized with American culture, along with kitchenware such as aprons, trays, and glass cups. Additionally, Secretary Blinken presented leashes engraved with the English names of President Yoon and the First Lady’s dogs Sunny, Saerom, Tory, Narae, and Mari, as well as an LP by the British rock band Queen and Don McLean, and a framed artwork depicting the skylines of Washington DC and Seoul.


The Presidential Office stated, "These gifts are much more diverse and special compared to the ornaments or souvenirs our leaders have received during past visits to the U.S.," adding, "In particular, the meticulous consideration by the U.S. of the hobbies and preferences of President Yoon and his wife stood out."
