Three earthquakes with a magnitude of 4 or higher occurred within two days in Sichuan Province, China.
According to the China Earthquake Networks Center on the 4th, at 10:15 a.m. that day, a magnitude 4.9 earthquake struck Xingyuan County, Yibin City, Sichuan Province. The epicenter was 10 km deep, causing damage to about 600 houses and creating 49 displaced persons. Some roads were closed to traffic.
Tremors were also felt in Chongqing, Yunnan, and Guizhou, about 200 km away from the epicenter.
In Xingyuan County, two other earthquakes with magnitudes of 4 and 4.5 occurred at 12:08 p.m. and 1:04 p.m. the previous day, respectively, resulting in three earthquakes of magnitude 4 or higher within two days.
At 2:06 p.m. that day, a magnitude 3.3 earthquake also occurred in Simian County, Ya'an City, Sichuan Province.
Including a magnitude 3.7 earthquake that occurred at 10:01 a.m. the previous day in Gongjing District, Zigong City, Sichuan Province, there were five earthquakes with magnitudes over 3 in Sichuan Province over two days.
Earlier, on the night of the 2nd, a magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck Baoshan City, Yunnan Province, adjacent to Sichuan Province, injuring three people and causing 380,000 residents to evacuate.
