G7, Will the Summit Joint Statement Include a Call for 'Responsible Behavior' from China?

First Case Including Separate Item for China Content

There are claims from Japan that the joint communiqu? of the Group of Seven (G7) summit may include, for the first time, language demanding responsible behavior from China.

On the 3rd (local time), the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported that the G7 is considering including the phrase "demanding responsible behavior from China" in the joint communiqu? of the summit. This phrase may be included along with requests for China to comply with international laws and norms. If a separate section addressing China is added to the G7 summit joint communiqu?, it would be the first case.

The Nihon Keizai Shimbun interpreted that the G7 intends to include such language in this summit to enhance the effectiveness of its demands to China.Previously, at a meeting held last month, G7 foreign ministers adopted a joint statement urging "China to act as a responsible member of the international community."

Foreign media also expect that the joint communiqu? of this summit may include opposition to China's attempts to change the status quo in Taiwan, the East China Sea, and the South China Sea. It is explained that demands for cooperation in rebuilding the international order and responses in security and economic fields targeting China will also be included.

The G7 will hold the summit for three days starting from the 19th in Hiroshima, Japan. Japan is serving as the chair country of the G7 summit.
