The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family announced on the 2nd that a victim of the Japanese military 'comfort women' has passed away. The personal information of the victim was not disclosed at the request of the bereaved family.
Kim Hyun-sook, Minister of Gender Equality and Family, said, "It is very heartbreaking to see another victim of the Japanese military 'comfort women' pass away," and added, "I hope the grandmother finds peace."
She continued, "Now, there are only nine survivors among the victims registered with the government," and stated, "The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family will carefully support the victims to ensure they can spend their remaining years comfortably and will continue to promote commemorative projects to restore the honor and dignity of the victims."
Currently, there are a total of 240 victims of the Japanese military 'comfort women' registered with the government. Among them, 231 have passed away, leaving 9 survivors. Eight are aged between 90 and 95, and one is over 96, with an average age of 94.4 years.
