The planned sites for (provisional name) Doyang Elementary School and (provisional name) Homyeong Middle School are located within the second phase development district of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Government New Town.

One Elementary and One Middle School to Be Newly Established in Gyeongbuk Provincial Government New Town Planned Site for New School Establishment.

(Provisional name) Doyang Elementary School is scheduled to be newly established in Doyang-ri, Pungcheon-myeon, Andong City, with a total of 49 classes, including 48 general classes and 1 special class.

The two existing elementary schools within the Gyeongbuk Provincial Government New Town (Pungcheon Pungseo Elementary School and Homyeong Elementary School) are already operating beyond full capacity by accommodating students only from the first phase area, making the establishment of the first elementary school in the second phase area an urgent matter.

Additionally, (provisional name) Homyeong Middle School is planned to be newly established in Sanhap-ri, Homyeong-myeon, Yecheon County, with a total of 37 classes, including 36 general classes and 1 special class.

(Provisional name) Homyeong Middle School will be established to alleviate overcrowding at Pungcheon Middle School in the first phase area of the New Town and to accommodate middle school students generated from the second phase multi-family housing, and it is expected that the establishment of the first middle school in the second phase area will greatly improve the educational environment of the New Town.

The Gyeongbuk Office of Education expects that the Ministry of Education’s approval for the new schools will greatly help resolve overcrowding issues at nearby elementary and middle schools and alleviate difficulties caused by long-distance commuting for students and parents moving into multi-family housing in the second phase pilot district.

The schools approved for establishment this time will proceed with specific establishment plans, including the scheduled opening date, through administrative and financial procedures, which will be formulated and promoted by the respective education support offices.

Lim Jong-sik, Superintendent of Education of Gyeongbuk, stated, “We will spare no support to improve the difficulties of long-distance commuting caused by multi-family housing development and poor educational conditions so that students can receive education in a better environment.”
