Mapo-gu Operates Six Unmanned Enforcement Cameras Year-Round in Hongdae Red Road and Club Street Areas
Expanded Operation During Late Night, Sundays, and Holidays... Illegal Parking Reduced Nearly Sixfold During Pilot Operation
Expected to Resolve Risks from Crowded Areas Such as Pedestrian Inconvenience and Traffic Congestion
Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) has started operating unmanned enforcement cameras 24 hours a day, year-round, from the 1st of this month to ensure pedestrian safety and smooth vehicle traffic in the crowded Hongdae area.
The target areas are Eoulmadang-ro within Hongdae Red Road (RED ROAD) and the surrounding Hongdae Club Street.
A total of six cameras operate 24 hours: two unmanned enforcement cameras installed on Eoulmadang-ro, and four cameras installed near Samgeori Pocha, Sunorae Practice Room, KT&G Sangsangmadang, and Rohas Tower.
Accordingly, fines will be imposed upon detection starting the same day. However, to revitalize the local commercial district, enforcement is suspended during lunchtime from 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM.
Until now, the district operated unmanned enforcement cameras for illegal parking from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM on weekdays and from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Saturdays. Late-night hours, Sundays, and holidays were excluded.
However, since the Hongdae Red Road and Club Street areas attract more crowds at night and on weekends than during weekday daytime, the district confirmed that illegal parking nearly tripled during the hours when the unmanned enforcement cameras were not operating.
The Mapo Police Station also requested strengthened enforcement against illegal parking in the area, citing delays in nighttime dispatches caused by illegally parked vehicles.
In particular, the Red Road section (Eoulmadang-ro across from KT&G Sangsangmadang) suffered severely from illegal parking issues.
Before operating the unmanned enforcement cameras 24 hours, the district fully renovated the Hongdae West public parking lot and newly paved the road. Two new unmanned enforcement cameras were also installed.
As a result, the number of enforcement cases, which previously approached 2,000 per month, has decreased to about 340.
Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “Our district is making efforts to create a safe cultural street in the Hongdae area by fully renovating the Hongdae West public parking lot and intensively enforcing the surrounding area. We expect that expanding the operation of unmanned enforcement cameras to 24 hours year-round in the Red Road and Club Street areas will create a safe pedestrian environment for residents and tourists and improve traffic flow.”
Gangdong-gu Prevents Sinkhole Accidents Through Subsurface Void Exploration
Ground Penetrating Radar Survey to Investigate Ground Around Underground Facilities
Prevents Safety Accidents Due to Ground Subsidence, Creating Safe and Pleasant Road Environment
Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Soo-hee) announced plans to conduct subsurface void exploration services on district-managed roads starting in June to prevent road subsidence accidents caused by voids (empty spaces) in advance.
In this project, the district will use Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) equipment to survey the ground around underground facilities beneath roads. First, the GPR equipment will identify the location of voids, then drilling will confirm their presence, and video recording will assess their scale.
Depending on the size of the discovered voids, small voids will be immediately repaired, while larger voids will undergo excavation investigations to accurately determine the cause and then be repaired accordingly.
In accordance with the Special Act on Underground Safety Management, the district annually conducts void exploration services divided by zones for the ground around underground facilities such as water and sewage, electricity, and telecommunication installations beneath local roads.
As a result, 31 voids have been discovered and repaired over the past two years.
Kim Kyung-geun, Director of the Road Division, stated, “Through this void exploration service, we will prevent safety accidents caused by ground subsidence in advance, alleviate residents’ concerns, and create a safe and pleasant road environment.”
Jung-gu First Nationwide to Display Individual House Prices on General Building Register Since Last Year
Residents Appreciate Elimination of the Inconvenience of Separately Issuing Individual House Price Certificates
Other Local Governments Nationwide Learn from Jung-gu’s Proactive Administration and Some Are Implementing It
Seoul Jung-gu (Mayor Kim Gil-sung) continues this year to assist residents by concurrently displaying individual house prices on the general building register, following last year’s initiative.
The collective building register only displays apartment prices, not individual house prices, so residents had to separately obtain individual house price certificates to know those prices.
Jung-gu was the first nationwide to display individual house prices on the general building register starting last year, receiving positive feedback from residents.
This eliminated the inconvenience of separately issuing individual house price certificates for verifying tax data such as comprehensive real estate tax and property tax, allowing residents to check individual house prices with a single building register document, saving time and costs.
The district linked 4,860 individual house price characteristic items publicly announced as of January 1, 2023, with general building register data, and displayed 2,606 individual house prices in the ‘Other Recorded Items’ section of the general building register where lot number, total floor area, house area, and approval date all matched. Discrepant data will be carefully reviewed and continuously supplemented.
From June 1, 2023, individual house prices based on that date will also be concurrently displayed on the general building register, and changes in individual house prices will be reflected in real time.
Kim Gil-sung, Mayor of Jung-gu, said, “Since Jung-gu first launched this service, inquiries have come from local governments nationwide, and some are actually planning to introduce the service. We will continue to carefully examine and improve any inconveniences from the residents’ perspective when implementing administration.”
