Gyeonggi-do Cracks Down on Illegal Fishing Activities in Coastal Areas Crackdown on Illegal Fishing Activities

Gyeonggi Province will conduct a joint crackdown on illegal fishing activities in coastal waters during the first half of the year from May 22 to June 20.


Prior to this, from May 1 to 21, the province will carry out awareness campaigns to prevent fishing safety accidents and promote a healthy fishing culture.


The main targets of the crackdown are ▲violations of fishing restrictions ▲failure to wear life jackets ▲boarding beyond capacity ▲illegal fishing activities within designated fishing control zones.


The focused crackdown areas include the coastal waters of Hwaseong, Ansan, Siheung, and Pyeongtaek, as well as Sihwa Lake and the Oido area, which are designated fishing control zones under the "Fishing Management and Promotion Act."


The crackdown will be conducted jointly with the relevant city and county authorities and the maritime police.


The province will impose penalties of up to one year imprisonment or fines up to 10 million won according to the "Fishing Management and Promotion Act" and the "Water Leisure Safety Act" for detected violations.


Kim Seong-gon, Director of the Marine Fisheries Division of the province, emphasized, "Through continuous joint crackdowns, we will do our best to eradicate illegal fishing activities to prevent safety accidents and establish a healthy fishing culture."
